I thought I saw my life in afterword;
Glimpsed a moment : vapid seconds lost in
Self ; and wondered why some sharp, reflective,
Idly questing change, in no direction,
Brought bright knowledge, hardly grasped, yet focussed,
Sharply blurred, to clear-cut comprehension.
All meaning, intricate, escaped at once :
As bubbles brushed by gestures vainly vague –
In silent gush and just-sensed moisture spray
Catch breath as nothing : life wonder, in soft
Negation of unseen rare perfection.
A moment lost, unremarked, of simple
Nature’s Law. And such an instant surely
Shows our little worth in schemes eternal …….
…. A jigsaw, all complete, save one piece, but,
Which changes shape each new attempted lunge :
Perfectly binding, blinding to the mind,
That truth evades in selfish ignorance.
